Check List: Before setting off
There are some basic rules before starting to sail::
- Check weather conditions of the area: through the harbour offices, internet, press, television, etc..
- Check fuel: Rule of 1/3: You must have enough fuel for keeping 1/3 for departure, 1/3 for return and 1/3 for reserve.
- Basic check of motor: belts, levels, water outlet, alarms, etc.
- Check drinking water: You must always have on board enough drinking water for the planned crossing, and also an extra reserve.
- Check electronics and communications: lead, gps, vhf, mobile phone, etc.
- Inform in the harbour offices about the destination, crossing length and other data.
- Check the security equipment: life jackets (condition and position), raft, flares, etc.
- In sailing ships, check ropes and sails.
Ship’s papers: You must have the regulation of your title and your boat, in accordance with the legislation in force.
