BASIC RECOMMENDATIONS FOR KEEPEING SEAS CLEAN:
- It is forbidden to throw to the sea plastic, glass, drums and packings of any kind.
- It is forbidden to throw oil, fuel waste, oily water and other hydrocarbons.
- It is forbidden to unload to the sea dirty water from toilets, showers or kitchens, at less than 4 miles from the coast.
- Between 4 and 12 miles, it is not forbidden if you have on board the adequate equipment for breaking waste into small pieces and disinfecting it. In the Mediterranean it is absolutely forbidden at less than 12 miles and only in the case of organic waste. The boat must always sail at more than 4 knots while it unloads and it must produce neither floating solids.
- It is forbidden to throw food waste, organic waste, at less than 12 miles from the coast. You must never unload waste in plastic bags.
- The possible unload of other not aforementioned pollutants follows the prescriptions of the Marpol Agreement.
- You must have on board all waste: garbage, oil, dirty water, plastic, etc. Waste must be in tanks or adequate containers and you must unload them in a facility of your yachting harbour or of the harbour where you tie up.
